The Sheriff’s Animal Regulations program serves unincorporated Shasta County. A county-operated animal shelter or dog-license workflow is not established by this page.

The Sheriff’s official referral names Haven Humane for licensing. Use the provider’s current online, in-person or mail instructions and check the correct residence jurisdiction; this does not make Haven a county-owned department. Clinic vaccination fees are separate from dog-license fees.
Before you start
- Availability · Official county-to-Haven referral; Sheriff field enforcement remains a separate service
- For licensing, adoptions, unwanted pets, cat trap rentals, and spay/neuter vouchers please contact the Haven Humane Society at 241-2550/241-1653. [3]
- Information & documents · Haven Humane Intake Building B licensing counter
- Bring a current rabies certificate to Haven Humane’s Intake Building B. Cash and credit cards are accepted. [5]
- Processing time · Haven Humane published mailing time after payment, not a guaranteed end-to-end approval time
- After submitting your application and required documents, our team will review your request. Your dog license will be mailed within 3–5 business days after payment is received. [6]
The county-referred provider publishes limited surrender availability. It does not accept general owner-surrender dogs or large animals, has limited cat/small-animal space, and accepts animals originally adopted from Haven subject to contacting them. Call before bringing an animal; Sheriff field response is separate.
Before you start
- Availability · Haven Humane provider admission limits; not a promise of open intake
- General owner-surrender dogs and large animals are not accepted. Cats and small animals have limited space; call about pets adopted from Haven. [7]
- Appointments · Haven cat intake conditions; lost/feral-cat allocation by phone and friendly owner-surrender cat restrictions are distinct
- Call for current cat intake. Lost/feral-cat spaces are allocated by phone at 8 a.m. weekdays; lobby arrival does not reserve a space. Sick or injured pet cats are not accepted. [8]
